Piece of my thought about private healthcare in Malaysia and Insurance company
Woke up this morning and saw a post shared by one of my insurance agent friend on FB , regarding his client has to pay RM 3000++ for in-patient treatment due to dengue fever!!! and of course, promoting how great it is to have insurance for covering all the expenses.
Hospital admission for dengue fever can cost up to RM 3000++ in a private hospital !!??
Unbelievable right? Let me tell you it costs less than RM 30 for all those treatments in government hospital. Why is it so there is more than 100X difference in the price????
I appreciated the existence of private hospitals in my country since they provide better services, shorter waiting time and ?better doctor for the public. Oops, let me clarify a bit for the RICH only I think!
Most of the private hospitals nowadays only accept patients with healthcare insurance or you can provide evidence that you have the ability to pay for the treatments out of your own pocket.
Insurance companies exists at the first place to help the client in case they encountered any accidents or medical issues but private hospitals seems to abuse this system. For instance, overcharging the fees, ordering unnecessary diagnostic tests and of course unnecessary hospital admission !
I won't say the insurance companies are the innocence here since they get the benefits too by promoting " OMG, look at the medical fees you have to pay nowadays in the private hospital, if you have extra money please do sign the medical insurance policy with us so that your health and life could be ensured, unless you want to have your care in government hospital! "
So what's wrong of having treatment in government hospital??? I have heard a lot of accusation regarding the services, waiting time and doctor's quality in government hospital. I could't say all of them were not true but at least they provide treatment for the needed regardless the financial background.
Insurance Companies and private hospitals are having their own WIN-WIN situation but at the end it's not benefiting the public.
I'm not a judge here to say who should take the blame here nor I can figured it out this egg or chicken first theory, whether is the existence of the insurance provide the chance for those to abuse it; or the private hospitals provide the chances for the existence of insurance companies at the first place. However, in a nutshell we can see clearly that whichever the direction goes, the public is the victim of this whole misery.
