Please be kind to us...from a medical student

As a medical student, we are always told that we are at the most bottom part of the pyramid, we are the most undifferentiated human being in the hospital setting, we are just nobody...

I won't normally complaint, no matter how harsh was the criticism but somehow an incidence that I experienced a few days before still stuck in my head like a nightmare.

" So is it the remnants that in the uterus causing the postpartum pyrexia in this patient?" while I was pointing to the ultrasound screen.

"Let me tell you one thing, you just need to go back and do your history taking and case summary. This is too high end for you, please go back and read about the parity." He don't even bother to answer my question while instead answering the exact same question proposed by one of my smarter colleague.

I was hurt and still hurting, felt instant humiliation and all my pride crumbled down at the same time.
How am I supposed to react? Yes, I did whatever a medical student can do the best, wearing my brightest smile and say " yes, thank you Dr."

To my dear doctors, mentors and consultants:

I understand the real meaning behind your criticism, you're trying to emphasis our weaknesses and in helping us to improve, to become a more competent doctor. I really appreciated your effort for spending your extra time in teaching us.

But...

Please be kind to us...

we are still learning, we made silly mistakes sometimes, some of us are really good while some of us still trying our best to be on par with our colleague, the journey to become a doctor is not easy we knew it on our first day. I hope you understand we are trying our very best too, we want to be success, we want to make you proud.
